Re: I Just Fired My First Customer
Either write him a proper reply or keep it to yourself. Writing the type of reply that you did suggests that you are unable to defend your position with rational argument.

Re: I Just Fired My First Customer
Thanks Atlantic,
Although I have yet to be required to provide any such itemized list, if the situation does occur, that one is requested, I would surely like to provide this advise for the HO. Each of us should value our time enough to feel comfortable to be able to charge for our services, whether our trade or or knowledge. One point I must add that no one has brought up though. In some states, the primary contractor is required to provide the HO with a sworn statement of all subcontractors and material-men with total dolar amouns incurred (not line by line itemization), BY LAW, in Illinois. I am not sure if it is specific as to the time frame, ie; prior to contract signing, or prior to initiating work, or prior to invoice at end of job. It is discussed at length and in better detail in the Ilinois Mechanics Lien Act. I had not previously considered, that if the HO was looking at this requirement or suggestion from a "how to choose", guide, that he may have just concluded that he needed the most extreme amount of details. As my final thought, although I feel that if the original poster had more adequately prepared his initial proposal package to pre-address these items, this situation may not have escalated in such a manner; I truly believe that once you make a decision, by gut instinct or other means, that you must not get wishy-washy and waiver your own judgement. Don't beat yourself up about it, and just get on with your next job, for your own peace of mind. Ed |
