Re: I Am Frustrated And Relieved

Scott,

I think you handled this situation properly. Just some advice....

I would accept a very modest amount of the blame for the miscommunication that occurred, and use that as a justification for the following structure;

To ensure better communication, all progress updates, changes, questions, or any communication be done face to face with he and his wife present, and before the start of the shift, not after. This will be documented, and if any issues are deemed critical, they be signed by all 3 parties. Furthermore, I would inform them that you will not be available for discussions relative to this project unless scheduled per the above start of shift arrangement.

Then I would get right in there and get this thing done while his wife is hot on his back about how he handled the situation.

I must be a prude, but it would never occur to me to pick up a phone while drunk to call a contractor about a complicated job--let alone one about to start tomorrow. Like I said...this dude is on a HAIR trigger. PLEASE BE CAREFUL.

I did some work for an aquaintance a couple of years ago and he would come home early from work and get smashed on Martinis by the time I left at the end of the day. I pretty much told the guy to stay away, shutup and go smoke on the deck. I don't need that sheet.

Good luck, bro.

Re: I Am Frustrated And Relieved

pearce, good advice to a sensitive issue with new stuff in the new contract that they will be getting.

and greg,

you are right about a hair trigger. i left the issue as i will call when the last job begins and then nears completion. i haven't committed fully to doing it, but i will make that decision after time has passed and tempers and ill feelings have settled some.
