Re: How Long Does Your Tape Measure Last?
I used to have only one tape measure and it would break all the time and I would have to go out and get a replacement. One day I got tired of doing that and saw that the orange 25' Lufken's were on sale for $5 each. I bought about 15 of them, that was about 5 years ago today i still have about 13 of them left.

Re: How Long Does Your Tape Measure Last?
The tape I have now is about 5 years old, I rarely ever use a tape measure.
Mine is a Kamelon 25' stainless steel tape.

Re: How Long Does Your Tape Measure Last?
I use a Fat Max 25' for framing and exterior trim. I keep a fat max 16' in my truck that I use at the lumber yard. For shop or finish work I like the smaller black and yellow (contractor grade maybe) stanley tapes that are 16' and have 32nds on the them. I had a 35' Fat Max but it was way too big. Kept falling off my belt till it broke. Also don't let your tip slam back it will f it up. I will use a pair of vise grips to adjust my tip if it goes out of whack. As long as you get the same length when pulling and pushing a measurement your tape is set up right for itself. Whether or not it matches someone elses is something else all together.

Re: How Long Does Your Tape Measure Last?
I have at least 3 Stanley Max Steels at any one time. And one silver Stanley on the front seat of my truck for estimates. they are all thirties. Every once in awhile a blade will develop a crack and eventually break. Sometimes a tape will get wet inside from a drop in water and the spring mechanism will forever be destroyed. About once every two years I will buy a new pair and dispose of a pair.

Re: How Long Does Your Tape Measure Last?
i have 3 crapsman tapes. i have had a 25' for as long as i can rember and i bought a 35' while i was working for the last company. about a year ago i bought a 25' tape just to stay in my truck for doing estimates and such.
the 35' tape is about 6 or 7 years old, rarley gets used. i actually thought i lost it for a while, then it showed up in my bosses truck, then the electrician showed up on a job and handed it to me one day last month. the 25' i use everyday will last about a year or so. i return them when they break a couple times then i figure i got my $ worth out of them and just toss it and buy a new one. I like the craftsman tapes, they work well and are not as huge as the fat max are. |

Re: How Long Does Your Tape Measure Last?
I have a very nice 35 footer. I don't remember the make, but I guard it with my life. I usually go through a couple`of tapes a year, but I've kept hold of this one. 35' is so much more convenient to use, especially for width of houses. I also have a 50' cloth/fibreglass tape, and a 16" ruler.
