How Is The Housing Market In Mesquite, NV?
Might be moving to the area. What is the market like here and in the surrounding area? Is housing staying strong? Also, how is the rental market?
Any info about Mesquite would be greatly appreciated? |

Not sure where you are at, I am close to Mesquite. It is growing, though still small by most standards. There is a new Del Webb retirement community going in. Housing prices are dropping back to "normal" prices. Not sure about about rental market. No real employment except casinos and golf courses.
St. George, Utah is about 45 miles north, more there. I rarely see anything on Craigslist or the local forums, here is St. George paper, look in real estate section. http://thespectrum.com |

Mesquite is still a podunk town in the middle of the desert- a little bigger than most podunk towns, but not enough to be all that desirable of a place to set up shop if you're looking to do any kind of volume.

Yes, it is a small town, like I said, it is growing! There are plans for a new international airport in St. George. Mesquite is a golf destination (poor mans vegas) and a place for Utahns to play and pick up some liqour!

Are you in the St. George area RC? What is the economy like in St. George and the surrounding area? I understand it is a little more difficult for a new builder to open up shop in St. George unless you are affiliated with a certain religious group? Not to bash anyone at all. Just what I have heard. I don't know anything about St. George though.

Re: How Is The Housing Market In Mesquite, NV?
I am 40 miles west of St. George in the middle of the Escalante Valley. Do a lot of shopping and some work there, most of my work is in Cedar City, north of St. George. Depends on who you ask about the economy! We had a major boom with investors and Californians buying up everything, contractors could name their price and there was a lot of residential building. Now there are tons of foreclosures, I think I read somewhere that it was 1 out every 83 homes in foreclosure in St. George vs 1 in 200 for utah.
Anyway, prices are going back to "normal". Lots of commercial work going on. Not lots like in major metro areas tho. Still a small town with a few big players. I am not part of the major religion here, I honestly feel that it has not been an issue. I think the LDS members tend to network together more because they socialize more with each other. Someone who has the same value systems generally is accepted. Another thing is Utah's licensing requirements, they are pretty high and actively enforced. www.utah.gov/dopl for more info. Wages are lower, unemployment is low, beautiful place to live! |

Mesquite is one of the few areas in Nevada and surrounding areas that is bucking the trend, building permits continue to inch higher every year, yes is a small town, but i wouldn't be surprise to see it growth a lot in the next few years.
