How To Easily Get Grants From The United States Agencies?

Hi everyone,

Many contractors are unaware of the opportunities that are available or will soon be available through UnitedStates agencies such as the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), US General Services Administration (GSA) or others that are engaged in the hiring of contractors for the upkeep of properties owned, occupied or affiliated with the agencies. These agencies act in a similar manner as a general contractor deploying work to many subcontractors. Further, the government is set to grant billions on community development projects.

What I do not understand is that everyone asking for more government spending is also asking for better accountability of where this money goes. How can the government be more accountable when the process seems so back dated?

I have been spending a lot of time trying to position myself to get government work and the approval process is overwhelming. Also, from what I have heard is that once approved, that I will get work via tons of faxes, etc.

Can anyone tell me if they have been successful at getting government work and from what specific agency? They seem to operate differently, but I may be not understanding enough. Also, please tell me what it is like to get the actual jobs (via fax, etc.) and how promptly you have been paid.

Thanks,
Phil

What is your code? My specialty is 235520. If I only go by that one, there are only four jobs available right now and none of them I can actually do. You might think of broadening your skill classification.

Now, let's say I take the code, 236118, Residental Remodeler. A much better chance of finding a job.

Commerce Business Daily at http://cbdnet.gpo.gov/index.html is another source for business through the gov. I think this is for jobs above 25k but the site has most all the info you need. Haven't been involved with this since the 90's and a lot has changed. No more printed versions that one could find in the library.

Well, crap. Looks like I have been out of the loop for way too long. I guess FBO replaced CBD. Sorry.

They used to do hud houses here, the contractors would double their price and still get the job. I guess the paper work was a mess but it paid great. As soon as I got my license to get in on it they stopped doing these houses, they ran out of money.

I was just looking at a few state grant programs last week, but CA is in such a fiscal crisis that all those programs have been cancelled.

Last week I was doing the same and pretty much found everything had no money this year.

Low bidder dosen't always get the job. Many times, reputation counts for the most. Things will most likely change soon as it looks like they're going to have more oversight and look at costs a tad bit closer. You are only suppose to earn 10-15% profit on government work.

As for getting more work, online /web page helps. Networking, knowing people helps, prior Federal Service helps A LOT! Knowing your way around the apperwork is the biggie.

If you are ever willing to work overseas to land a job in a high risk area, that helps the most..... of course you gotta' live to make it.
