Bad days happen. Some are worse than others, especially if they involve accidents or the loss of someone on your crew. Even those days when a lot of little things just seem to go wrong can weigh on you, however. Regardless of whether youíre trying to work through a tragedy on the job site or youíre just starting to feel the stress, there comes a point when you need to find a way to take care of yourself. I remind myself of the old adage, "This too shall pass".

Then I make myself some coffee and take the family out to eat.

Re: How Do YOU Recover After A Bad Day On The Job?

I try to find work I enjoy but if I come home and I'm extra pissy because things just aren't working out I usually just need to eat something.

Had a crane fall on site years ago. Almost killed a few people. Luckily everyone got out the way in time. Everyone was pretty shaky after that. I think we went home early, they were worried it was going to tip one way or another.

Re: How Do YOU Recover After A Bad Day On The Job?

I rarely have bad days. When I do, it's because I'm not eating right or not getting enough sleep. If I'm having a bad day, it's always an indication that i need to get my fundamentals back on track, so that's what I do.

Taking the dog for a walk in the bush normally makes everything fine again.

Sipping wine.

I had a lousy day today, as a matter of fact.. Installing stuff that doesn't fit, for one reason or another (don't ask). And I'm "almost" about to strangle (metaphorically only) the next untrained barking dog I come across...I'm barely tolerating 3 of them now and getting a sense of what PTSD might be like.

Re: How Do YOU Recover After A Bad Day On The Job?

usually will come home tired and stressed out on a bad day.. I know I need to get my mind to other things.. maybe shower and dinner will do it.. maybe put on a movie, documentary, read something that is a far cry from work related stuff..

I think what actually gives me relief though is work the next morning.. going back and tackling whatever was stressing me out and getting it done with, or realizing it was not as big a deal as I was stressing it to be.. just getting it dealt with so I could put it out of mind.. or starting something new and moving on with life

What is a 'bad day on the job'?

J/k. My 'bad day on the job' ends when the job for the day does. My time is for me. I don't carry a bad work day home with me.

Then you find someone who had a worse day than you and it doesn't feel that bad anymore
