How Do I Build In A Bad Economy?

I am starting a new house next week and need to keep my cost low in order to succeed in this economy.

I would like to get some suggestions on keeping my cost down.

There is a book available, Building an Affordable House
By Fernando Pages Ruiz, that is a bible to building on value. Highly recommended for spec home types....and yes, I have it as well.

Re: How Do I Build In A Bad Economy?

Out here the guys are stretching out the builds and hoping for things to pick up. We're screwed either way, we just won't know how bad until after the election results. I know 300 + employees that will be looking for new jobs and having a hard time paying their mortgage if we get "change".

Aim for a market that is doing well right now. People ain't buying new so much as holding on to what they have and improving it.

Three things... get bids, get contracts and hold your schedule tight tight tight

Time is money and the quicker you're in and out with good quality work the quicker you get off that construction loan
