I like Glidden, takes only 4 coats to cover a pencil mark.

Re: Home Depot...WTF?

You guys don't get it. People are willing to pay more for HD Services so they don't have to jerk around begging a contractor to come and finish a job. They have somebody to call instead of going to the contractors VM for the 50th time.

Re: Home Depot...WTF?

I can understand the negativity regarding HD, but there's some outright foolishness being tossed around in this thread.

I could write a book on this subject, but I'll just add a few facts for you to consider.

1. If you can work within the paramaters set by a large corporation, you can do very well subbing for one of the big boxes. You won't get your normal rate, but your customer acquisition cost will be $0. Some small biz owners have literally been made rich through their partnership with HD. Others have experienced nothing but frustration.

2. The volume that HD does in some installation services categories is unbelievable. In other categories, it's laughable.

3. Background checks are required for for every worker who will set foot on an HD customer's jobsite. If illegals are part of a work crew, that sub is in violation of his contract.

4. 90% of the installs HD performs go very well, and the customers are satisfied. Nobody every talks about those. People love to reference the 10% that don't.

5. HD is selling a value proposition as much as they're selling an installation. In reality, they're simply the middle man between their customers and the local contractors they've hired to perform installation services.

6. HD sells FAR more product than they do installs. They measure their install attach rate in every single category. I won't share the actual numbers here, but I will say this. The VAST majority of the product sold is being installed by someone other than an HD service provider. The market is far from cornered.
