Home Depot Tile Installation

Today at Home Depot my husband saw their ad for tile installation - $4/sq. ft. So...just for kicks he called when he got home and asked what that covered. The guy at the "pro" desk said any ceramic tile installation, any pattern, any size for the shower, floor, wall, etc. would run $4/sq. ft. My husband got off the phone and we started cracking up imagining some poor guy installing 1/2 inch mosaic tile for $4/sq. ft. Come on! Give me a break! So...does anyone know what their catch is? Even they really do hold true to the $4/sq. ft price they must ream you on prep or edging or sealing or something....

Lately we've been doing mostly kitchen & bathroom remodels and we're just waiting for someone to say "Home Depot will install the tile for $4/sq. ft!" And we'll say "Great! Good luck with that!"

When they tell you that, say, "Great! Go with them, and then I will rip their 4 dollar a square foot tile out and redo it correctly for 15 bucks a SqFT, just because I like you".

Believe it or not, they guy actually doing the work, is only seeing ½ of the $4 a foot. The HD workroom here pays $1.90, no matter what, over cement or if you are over wood and are installing CBU, too.

Re: Home Depot Tile Installation

I saw $5.99 p.sq.ft. posted in a Mass. HD. I assumed it was just for a 12x12 tile.

They are sneaky with thier estimates. I overheard a HD employee explaining to a customer that the front door install did not include any prep work for the door. They had ordered a larger door than was currently there and HD would not do any work to make a larger RO.

So I'm guessing with the tile, the employee tells you the sq.ft price covers everything and then when they show up to do the job, the price changes.

The big game they play here is with installed roofing. The price they quote is always for stripping one layer, even if there are multiple layers. And then in the fine print they have the change order price if there are more layers. Which there obviously are.

Re: Home Depot Tile Installation

Yeah, ck the fine print of their $4.00 tile install. You will see that it probably says that is installation over clean floor w/o any floor prep, etc.
