No, I haven't, but he is the spokesman for Home Depot instalation services.
At least here in Toronto anyway. He is all over their promotional material promoting their services. A poster boy

Re: Holmes On Homes

I've watched it many times. I really like the basic premise of the show. He goes in after a remodeling job has gone bad and points out and corrects all the faults. What I resent is the fact that he often berates work that he admits was done to code, but wasn't "good enough" for him. Yes, Home Depot is curiously featured here and there in his show too.

HD is his main sponsor - they're selling his DVD in their stores up here. Notice he never names names though.

I haven't seen the show but it sounds like I could do it, something for post-retirement. Wonder what he is paid?

Code sucks, it is a minimum requirement. Come down here and you can see 'code' at work, it is manifested by missing roofs, homes and folks living in FEMA trailers. Most of their homes were built to 'code', just not built to withstand the environment.

Also, I've never actually heard him recommend HD on any show. My impression is that they just sponsor him and supply "his" tools. Although he is shown doing work while on the show, the majority of the people doing the actual work are all subs from the Toronto area.

Terry,
His picture is in print ads and flyers for Home Depot services
In the ads he is quoted recommending Home Depot services
That makes him a spokesman for them

Re: Holmes On Homes

He show is noticeably Canadian. He uses typically Canadian words like "eavestroughs" and "weeping tiles" when we would say "gutters" and "foundation drains" in the US.

Re: Holmes On Homes

I didn't see the recommendations. I was just talking about the actual show. I have a hunch that the people he has on the show don't pay for the work he does for them. A show I saw the other day had this couple that got ripped off for $185,000, were out of money and couldn't live in the house because the contractor took off. It's just a hunch so I could be wrong.

All his power tools are Dewalt, and he seems to be proud of it. He drives a new Dodge Ram, and all his clothes are Carhart. I wish I could get my own show and free stuff, and all those big hugs that the lady home owners give him.

Re: Holmes On Homes

Dewalt is one of his sponsors, why wouldn't he be proud? I think we'd all be proud of having a sponsor that supplied us with free tools.

Also, if you look at the website, the idea for the show was his alone. You have to give him credit for getting to where he is, apparently there is a 1-2 year waiting list to get him to do work - it's hard to argue with that!

Re: Holmes On Homes

He is the big bad orange competition.

http://www.homedepot.ca/webapp/wcs/s...ervices_holmes

Considering the hundreds of complaints registered against Home Depot
instalation services

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/homeo...depot_expo.htm

he has no credibility any more.

It must be an eastern thing, they are gutters in BC...and we should know about gutters it rains a little here.

Re: Holmes On Homes

I like the show but find him to be the "King of Overkill". He did a demo on a garage once because it was not built well. Ended up putting in a bunch of piles, grade beams, 3' feet of granulate under the slab (with drainage,etc...), and used 2x6 construction. I don't know what it's like where you guys live, but here we basically pour a pad and throw up the garage. Isn't it basically just to keep your vehicle out of the elements and store your golf clubs and lawn mower. I think that new garage he built cost about $50,000.00 !!

A lot of the work he demos is poorly done but the the customer originally had laminate counter tops, paint grade cabinets and vinyl flooring. He leaves the customer with granite counter tops, solid Oak cabinets and a ceramic tile floor (with in floor heating). Which I'm sure they could not afford in the first place. So, it makes total sense that he gets hugs from the home owners wife at the end of every show. Also, as mentioned in an earlier post, there's no way the homeowners are paying for these new improvements.

My too! My girlfiend would complain if it wasn't for us having a king size bed!

I don't even store my golf balls in the garage - I don't like the cold temperature affecting them.

BTW Cole, what kind of clubs to you have? I've got R7 driver, V-Steel 3W, 5W, Rescue Mid 3, Rescue Dual 4, RAC OS irons, Cleveland wedges 52 deg. & 56 deg. and Odessy 2-Ball mallet putter. TaylorMade guy!
