HELP!! Insurance Company Shenanigans!
Ok, new here, so hi.
Here is the story... My partners landlord has major hail damage. We inspect the roof and she makes a claim. Nationwide sends a preferred "adjustor" out to inspect. The roof is a no brainer. He inspects, takes some pics, takes MY Eagle view and estimate. Here is the kicker...his company is also a preferred CONTRACTOR for nationwide. This ^&*$#@ takes my eagle view i paid for...sends in an estimate for $300 less than mine. THEN doesn't even send my estimate in just his based on MY eagle view measurments. I'm not even that pissed at this douche and his company...more so at Nationwide, because then they contact my homeowner and try to get her to go with the other company...tell her they are preferred and they can send the check directly to the "adjustor/contractor". I would like some advise from you wise men (long time lurker first time poster!)...talk about dirty pool. Thanks for letting me vent...it was this or going to the preferred "adjustor/undercover contractor"'s office and busting his teeth down his throat. The only good thing is that this a friend so they are like no...I have a contractor...but how many jobs are these assholes stealing from hard working contractors? Its a freaking racket...isn't there a conflict of interest here?? ![]() ![]() ![]()

Every insurance company around here has someone in their back pocket, more like front with some of them.

That's how it works. I was an adjuster and we were told to recommend 'preferred contractors'. For the ma & pop contractors out there, this is a huge problem. Especially when a lot of people end up not happy with the 'preferred contractors.' All the major insurance companies are doing this now.

Not sure how it works in your area but around here alot of insurance companies work with bigger companies that provide them with kick-backs. Basically the little guys are just used for free quotes, the insurance world is a dirty place...insurance is just a high-priced loan.

Re: HELP!! Insurance Company Shenanigans!
Are you sure the company sent out a preferred adjuster? I have never heard of a preferred adjuster they are either staff or independent. Sounds like the insurance company sent out a preferred contractor. That would explain why he took took your eagle view doc. and and trashed your estimate. If he is in fact an adjuster and the contractor I would bet that the insurance company would like to know. Wouldn't that fall under conflict of interest?

Re: HELP!! Insurance Company Shenanigans!
I just wish I could hear from my adjuster on a claim I files on the 9th ( I think). My agent says he is not surprised as they are slammed with storm damage claims.
Oh, that really smells to me Money. |

Re: HELP!! Insurance Company Shenanigans!
If the state you live in requires Adjusters to hold a license then a licensed adjuster must come to inspect the roof.
The word preferred has nothing to do with it. This is a conflict of interest to say the least and I'd make a complaint to the insurance board. The insurance company must send an adjuster to valuate the claim not a contractor playing the role. |
