Help With Finish On Pecky Beam

hello all. I am planning on pecky cyprus beam for a mantel. i have already

aquired the beam and need more know how on the finishing. I've begun to

wire brush the voids. I'm thinking i might want to fill the voids with epoxy

or the bar top stuff. Do I use a wood sealer? I can only imagine that the

cyprus is going to suck up anything i put on it. thanks in advance

Wouldn't you think that this might
belong under painting and finishing?
Or better yet at DIY forum?

Cycanoacrylate. Use it to harden the soft areas. Fill with your choice of filler.

Also, why would you fill the voids? That is the whole idea behind using pecky wood. For the look.
