You need to pick your reference axis and break all the forces into components. Two components that are perpendicular to eachother (x and y axes) for each force. As for orientation, that's just intuitive isn't it?
At least that's what I think you need to do. I was in engineering for 3 years, but that was many moons ago.

I do not need to figure any number, just which members are tension, compression, moment or shear. I think the top chord of the bar joist is in compression if there is a load applie such as metal decking. And the beam is also in compression i think. And since it is a welded connection it is a rigid connection, correct?
