Heavy Civil Q's For A Newbie Student.
Hello,
I am new to this site, and new to the construction industry. Well, I can't even say that. I'm a CM student who is hoping to break into the industry. I'm glad I stumbled upon this site. There seems to be a lot of information here. I was hoping you could help me. My school has classes for both residential, and commercial construction, but none for Heavy Civil. As a result, I never really thought about that route until I went to a career fair and met with a company who specializes in Heavy Civil. Do any of you have any knowledge about the industry? If so, how do/did you like working in that industry? What are some of the main differences between heavy civil and Residential or Commercial? How does that sector look for the future? The guy I talked to at the career fair briefly mentioned something. He said that Heavy Civil contractors do their own work, and don't have to deal with subs like Res. and Comm. Contractors do. Is there any validity to this, or do you think that was just his company that does their own work. I know the only good way to tell if I like it is to get an internship in all three sectors, but I was just curious. You know, that whole instant gratification thing .Thank you in advance! -Casey |
