Had A Great Customer Today!

So, I went to this house where the guy wants some **** done to his laundry room done. From the phone conversations, I thought he just wanted some new shelving, not the case though. He wants all the drywall ripped and replaced along with all new shelving, flooring, plugs, switches, light fixture and some other ****. So, before I can talk price, he says to me.."I want this done right Mitch, so I rather yo charge me by the hour and take your time please. I want this done right and not half a55ed please" "I know you get what you pay for Mitch, soooo, please take you time!"

I'm a good judge of character y'all and this guy was genuine in knowing that u get what u pay for.

AMEN!! This guy really knew what it meant to hire someone and pay money for it..

Good bujaly - hope he follows through. I'd still throw a round house estimate out up front. Go high -just so he has a figure. See what his response is to that.

Last time I didn't throw a price out ahead of time, it blew up in my face. Even when the customer was happy with the job I did before it, he still didn't 'really' know what it was going to take.

Was this before you told him your hourly rate?

Hopefully he doesn't think your charging $12 an hour!

That's what I was thinking. The typical home owner has no concept....

Still, that is the type of customer that you want, when it comes to projects.

The opposite are the ones, that will tell you how long they feel it should take you, and they are off by several days ....and think the whole job should cost what the materials cost.

I had this same type of situation yesterday.
Customer calls and says,

"I have a garage door already purchased and was going to install it myself. I figured out it's more than a 1 man job. How much would you charge to come help me put it in?"

I replied, "On jobs like this I charge a $65 per hour rate."

He hung up.

You should have gotten his name and number first. Then answered him. After he hung up, you could send him a bill for the phone consultation fee...to really burn his britches.

Trust me, that blew up in my face once with some (now, ex) friends of mine. I told him my hourly rate and how long it might take, but i would send an estimate this weekend to be signed with my contract and a deposit. He was totally cool with it.

It's always nice to know there are still people out there who just want it done right.
