Great Product.

I used this the other day for the first time.

Application: threaded rod into brick.

After the cure time was met, I was able to tighten the nut until the washer started to compress into the wood (2X10).

First of all, The Simpson epoxy has a cure time of 24 hours @ 60 degrees.
This is not epoxy.

Now comparing similar products:
About a buck or two more, but 1/2 the cure time with the Red Head.

Well worth the extra two bucks in my opinion.

Re: Great Product.

I used to work highway construction installing guide rail. We would use that stuff pretty regularly when connecting the rail to bridges. 3/4" all-thread in a 1" hole. Sets up in five minutes and gets HOT if you get the mix on your skin. We would also use it to install thread into the highway itself when installing crash attinuators at the beginning of concrete barricades or against bridges.

Fantastic stuff. I'm glad it found its way to the retail market.

Re: Great Product.

Ok, its not apoxy, exuse me Now most situations in my feild call for an inspetion when you "epoxy", eather by the arhcitect or at you pre slab inspection for rebar into your footing. Now if you dont need it inspected why not use a hex head wedge anchor for a couple of bucks.

UCAN makes em, not really that great for brick, but for banging rod into concrete its fast and slick.

In brick, espicially hollow or OCAB (Old Crumbly Ass Brick) wedge or friction fastners don't hold a candle to adhesives.

Re: Great Product.

we don't have a lot of brick homes in Arizona, so how do you get the epoxy to stick to brick or (old ass crumbely brick) when you can't blow out the dust with compressed air. Its not like conc. its the same reason you cant use a wedge anchor,a single brick has no strenth by itself.I guess it depends on what your hanging, I wouldnt hang anything on new or old brick without an allthread throu the wall with nuts and washers. just my opinon......

No it is not.
Acrylic adhesive is exactly that, acrylic adhesive.

Epoxy on the other hand is epoxy.

Just because they both harden when mixed together does not make them the same.

Similar? Yes. The same? No.

Class dismissed.

Thank you I didn't realize thoes differences...

I'm honestly curious what is the difference? Does it remain more flexible then what I know as epoxy? Why is it prefered in this application? When would epoxy be better?

I always shoot to anchor through the wall backing whenever possible, but if I can't then I drill it out with a low-power hammerdrill then pop a screen sleeve in and pump it full of the Hilti hollow block epoxy. It oozes out in all directions and makes maximum contact with the brick. If you tore out that anchor you would have a wall comming with it.
