GREAT Custome Service From Porter Cable

Long story not so long:

My Porter Cable 135psi pancake compressor starts to smoke. I look online and find a service center near my house . I drop it off and they tell me it needs a part that is no longer available . I found that hard to believe since these pancake are very popular. So I call customer service. Let me tell you I never had an experience like this: they have caller ID. So they knew who I was and what Porter Cable products I own and when I bought them. Yeah, I know they got that info when I registered the products But VERY IMPRESSIVE I didn't have to look around for serial #'s or receipts. He notice that my compressor was 2 months over the 1 year warranty. He tells me that he going to try and put it through warranty but I need to bring it to a different place (one that specializes in compressors). So I drive there (about 30min) and can't find the place so I try calling and the # is disconnected. So Icall up and get a girl who tells me I need to go to another place an hour and a half away from my house. I live 15 minutes from Richmond VA. I told her I can't believe they don't have one closer and explained that between dropping it off and picking it up there is 6 hours of travel time. I then explained that buying a new one is cheaper than if I need to take a day off and not get paid to drive back and forth. well, I could tell I was getting nowhere with this um, um, lets say nice girl so I asked for her supervisor He looks at everything on his screen, I go through the story one more time (very nice guy) YADA, YADA, YADA - a few days later theres a new 150psi(upgraded) compressor at my doorstep. I think that was Great customer service on there part. I was annoyed at the service center being out of business, but lets face it when companies go out they don't always call everyone to tell them. I just wanted to share this with everyone, I like a company that stands behind there product.

Re: GREAT Custome Service From Porter Cable

All of the p.c. service centers in our are were bought out by black and decker/dewalt. I'm glad you had a good experience with them I've never been quite so fortunate.

I use alot of their 3 1/2 horse routers. Usually have to have at least one rebuilt every year. Last time I took one in it was over 3 months before I got it back. The shipped the damn thing from ohio to california for service. Then they wanted me to pay the shipping. Nope not happening. With enough arguing they dropped the shipping but it was difficult.

That's great
Them not knowing the service center went out is annoying, but hopefully someone now has updated the list
(it's all just what shows up on the screen anyway lol)
Aside from the one Phone Answering Dingbat, it sounds like the actual service dept. wanted to make things right
...and they sure did

Re: GREAT Custome Service From Porter Cable

I bought one of those porter cable compressor/finish nailer pakages from home depoop, two weeks later the nail gun is busted, so I took it to a porter cable service center. lets just say its been 8 months of calling them, telling me its done, then they cant find it. never returning my calls, computerized phone person you have to sit and type your 85 digit repair number. I have just written it off, and will never buy porter cable again.
