Re: Got Robbed!!!

Terry, I can sympathize. In 1982 crooks stole my Jimmy right off my driveway in the middle of the night.
a couple months later, they took all 4 wheels and the t-tops off my brother's Corvette in the middle of the night, again right in his driveway. And in the rain. You can imagine what the interior looked like in the morning when he went to the car.

In 2004, they took his Corvette right out of his locked garage. The police said the crooks must have cased the house.
After waiting 5 months for his replacement Corvette, it was stolen from the dealership when it for its first oil change. Someone went up to the counter, asked for the car, paid the bill, and drove away. My brother hadn't even made his first payment yet.

We right now are missing a quick cut and a jack hammer. No one knows where they are. That's why I've stopped buying tools for my me. Let them rent of buy their own.

Re: Got Robbed!!!

There are self contained security systems for trucks that cause a pager to beep as long as your within the so-many-hundread foot radius. I on the other hand am putting an RF receiver for the home alarm on the inside of the exterior wall and installing an RF contact (DSC) on the truck. When the alarm is armed in the stay mode while sleeping someone opens up the back and your siren goes off, monitoring station gets dialed etc etc.

Re: Got Robbed!!!

You may want to check out these wireless security systems

http://www.dewaltmobilelock.com/main.asp

http://www.tattletalealarm.com/prote...nstruction.php

As a GC, I don't have tools stored on site like many of you but a couple of years ago I had two brand new AC units stolen right off the side of a custom home I was building within two days after they were installed. The jobsite had 6' tall chainlink fence around the entire site which was gated and padlocked shut. I also had motion sensor lights wired and fake security cameras around the outside of the house with signs saying this jobsite is under video survellance to prevent this. None of that stopped them. They cut the locks, drove around to the side of the house, used a sawzall to cut the piping and electrical lines, threw the AC units in their truck and drove off. All within plain site of atleast 4 other occupied houses. It cost me several thousand dollars to replace and these crooks probably took these brand new units to the scrap yard for a couple hundred bucks.

Anyway, I was so pissed at the time, that's when I looked into these wireless security systems. I still haven't bought one but keep thinking that I need to make this investment.

TIme also to probably shop around for better tool insurance coverage. I know based on what I have that better is available.

My policy just covers a blanket dollar amount for tools - for example $20,000 worth. As long as an individual tool's value is under $750.00 I don't need anything to document it. Anything over $750 goes on a separate tool schedule. But under it, there is no depreciation no nothing.

If we get robbed, it's simply a matter of telling the insurance company the dollar amount stolen and getting a check.

Notification systems are great.

And they work best when you have notification only with no audible alarm or warning for the perp.

That way, when you get the notification you can sneak out there and beat down his sorry ass.

I keep one of these by my front door for just such an occasion:

I don't wanna sound like an ass, but your brother might want to look into the people he associates with and make some changes. That woulda been just waaaay to much coincidence for me Nobody has that kinda bad luck.

Expect alot more crime in the months and years too come, with the economy this bad you get much more desperate people. I don't know what crime is usually like in Canada, but i bet you guys just blame those illegal Americans!
down here we just blame those illegal Mexicans, and Mexicans just blame Salvadoreans etc.,

Out here in Nevada, when gas was $4.50 per gallon people were stealing it by drilling holes in the tanks, Mad Max style crime!

That sucks. It's a ****ty feeling when you discover someone has taken your stuff. For the first week after, you want to shoot anyone who even looks at your tools.

No kidding - on Saturday, a truck slowly drove by my house twice (the windows were down). On the second pass by, I walked out and confronted them.

It turned out they were looking for a specific address but yes, my radar is on red alert!

All the way in the front of the trailer you need a nice brand spankin new 14" diamond blade saw. When they pick it up the door will slam shut and lock. Then you back the trailer in the barn and close the doors.
