Re: This Forum - Time-passer Or Learning Tool

Both.

I have no Misses, no kids. Married to my job. Have a "companion" but she and I are both so busy we hardly ever hook up, and buddies don't come over much during the week so I spend alot of time on here. It's nice to have something to take a break to from doing bids, or if i'm having trouble on a bid, or just wanna read and post.

There is so much valuable information on here it's like have your own construction library. Sometimes you may have a question in your head, and it'll get solved by just browsing through the daily or recent postings.

However it's also something to make the time go by. I tell ya sometimes i'll get reading here and HOURS will pass without me even knowing it. Get caught up in a thread or asking or responding to certain posts, or just looking at all the extra stuff on the site(IE profiles,Ads,Sister sites, etc)that you lose track of time.

So both IMO

This site is a great learning tool. We are all in the trades, but come here with our own ideas and perspective. Sometimes you learn how someone else does things, sometimes you're assured you're doing it the best way when you ask a question. This site has definitely had a positive impact on my business.

Most of this site is a learning tool for me... However whenever I wander into the politics and religion area I know then I am just wasting time.

Re: This Forum - Time-passer Or Learning Tool

It is more of a learning experience for me than anything else. It just so happens that my clocks all enter into a black hole and get lost in the infernal time abyss. Sometimes when I get ready to be done, I just get sucked right back in and feel like I have been in an episode of the twilight zone.

Que the theme music. Da-da-da-da da-da-da-da ..................

Ed

Just doing a search on either certain topics or following certain individuals archived posts can be mentally exhilerating and exhausting at the same time.

I'm like Mud Master...not married, so, Yes I cruise this site to pass a little time. I do know that if I find myself in a bind I can come here and get some pretty solid advice.

Even though hours fly by, I don't fell like it's a waste of time. I've been here for 2 weeks and I've learned so much. I wish more people would post their thoughts and questions...silly or not!

Learning Tool.

I'm like a little sponge, leaching every last ounce of info I can. Hard to describe really. Guys I'm around can say something, and I either hear it or I don't. Here, I find that pretty much everything I read, I retain. A good add-on of brain power to any trade.

Re: This Forum - Time-passer Or Learning Tool

For what a newbie's opinion might be worth...

I just found this forum this morning, and I've already seen that I can learn a few things (and be reminded of a few others, that I've managed to forget) here. It's interesting to hear others' takes on things. I have enough to keep me busy, without looking for somewhere just to kill time. But if I can pick up some worthwhile knowledge on the way through, that ain't killing time, that's just a no-brainer.

This site is a great tool for me. There is alot of good insight and I use this site to get others ideas for anything I may be coudy on. People readliy give info when needed. That is hard to find, even from your co-workers or other trades on the job. I like to contribute when I can. I also see myself on before bed and my fiancee' yelling at me saying I need to pay her more attention!!!!!!!

Re: This Forum - Time-passer Or Learning Tool

I initially came to research and found some info here and on cleaning talk that has been helpful. I'd have to say I've learned more here then most places I've visited. I don't waste time here, I spend time hear. In the time I spend, I learn more than I came for. Was that wishy-washy? Anyway, Thanks for all the wisdom guys. Wen

Re: This Forum - Time-passer Or Learning Tool

It's a learning tool for me. Though I'm a roofer, I've dug footings, hung cabinets, done rough framing, trim, plumbing, elect, and sheetrock. I still do them all and learn from others every day.
