Flue Pipe Soot Problem

Not sure where to post this but a buddy needs some help and I have run out of ideas. Have a wood stove with 6" pipe flang out of the back with 6" 90, 4' vertical pipe to 90 into 8" thimbal to chimney. After 5 days of use 6" pipe leading to thimbal is full of soot. He tried burning hotter, running 6" pipe through thimbal directly to chimney flue.

What species of wood is he burning, and how well seasoned is it? Hotter will help, but you need good wood. Watch for chimney fires, the stuff in the pipe is likely creosote, not soot, and is highly flammable.

red oak and locust and well seasoned. the chimney it self is clean just the flue pipe has soot/creosote. He burns it hot and checks it with a wood stove thermometer.

That's strange. How is the draft on the chimney? Sometimes a cold masonary chimney will have problems getting a draft going. What brand of wood stove? How much is "full of soot"?

Don't burn pine.
