Flood

Anyone else out there dealing with the flood? I'm in Iowa - and I guess it doesn't have to be a flood. Tornado, fire, whatever it was. We'll be going on six months not being in our house in Dec. It is starting to wear on me.

You know, I'm not the fastest at what I do, but I do it right and I do as good a job as I can do. I can't do anything fast enough lately. It seems like I wake up thinking about the house, work all day on the house, and go to bed thinking about what I'm going to do tomorrow on the house.

I was shooting to be back in the house to start the new year, but my goal is fading fast. Trying to balance family and building this house again is draining.(we finished a major addition about three years ago.) I know my kids want to be home, and I know my wife wants to be home, but it seems like it is getting at me more than any of them. Maybe its because I'm working on it. I look at myself like I should be able to work faster, harder, smarter because I'm a contractor, but I can't seem to get anything right lately.

We're five weeks out from Christmas - boy, what I would give for my family to have Christmas at home.

Seems like all my big jobs drag on an on and at times I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. But I always finish. it always gets done.
You'll get there. I know one thing that helps me a lot is being able to delegate tasks to others and free up my time to plan ahead.
General Geroge S. Patton always said that in the military doctrine of "Decide, Plan and Execute", the Decide was the hardest of the three for him. Knowing what you're going to get done in a day always comes from a decision first. At least that's how I look at things.
Best of luck, keep plugging.
