Re: Fire Restoration

I have had a considerable amount of exposure to insurance restoration. I would rather paint a 10 x10" room for $20.00

Not saying it can't be profitable but it has always been a pain in the ass to me. They seem to be happy if you work for next to nothing though I have seen a "few" decent adjusters. Then the customer wants to spend it their way. Regardless of the agreement. Just been my experience

Re: Fire Restoration

Copus, that suprises me. I was under the impression that contractors made a killing doing insurance work. We had a big flood here a few years ago and guys I know were going in and removing the bottom 2' of drywall and insulation and replacing it with new (after the wall of the basement dried). They charged stupid amounts for this and because of the small scope of the work, were able to handle 3 or 4 jobs at one time. Maybe they could charge as much as they did because of the demand for the work (and not enough contractors to do it all). Individual insurance jobs must be different??

Sorry, can't answer your question Kevin.

Re: Fire Restoration

I think a lot has to do with the adjuster and the claim. I have seen them hand out money but not too often?
If they hand out money then the homeowner starts with the "you do the sheetrock and we'll take care of the flooring". Usually they don't pay crap for s/r and painting.
I really hate dealing with them as they are pros at turning the customer against you.
Has just been too many headaches whenever I deal with them.
one of the Restoration companies I know says they have full time staff fighting for their money and incresed allowances. Can get pretty dirty???

Re: Fire Restoration

I did a great deal of work due to Ice dams, Drywall and paint damage..I made very good money on them one contraact was for 82 units another was for 144 units..I hired a professional estimator to work up the bids for me ..He charged me 2% and it was coverd in the claim..it amazed me at the things he could charge for and insurance co. coverd all of it...there was a great deal of paperwork involved but in hindsight it was worth it. I'm starting to get the feeling that here in the Detroit metro area thats all the work we're going to have for a while- Kevin

That sounds like a good deal. If you are well versed in their programs then you can make the numbers work. I leased Exactimate but could not get the hang of it and did not have the time for classes.
If you can get someone for 2% then that's a deal.

Always amazed me how the adjuster can't just be fair and try to work it out. They make you come back and it can end up costing them more

If you know what buttons to hit then there can be money
