Finding New (good) Subs
In order to grow your business the right way, you need to have the right man power. People you can trust and feel comfortable having them representing you in front of your customers.
let's talk a little bit about how do you find new subs? Do you just trust referrals or you test them on small projects? Do you refer your subs to other GC's? Do you find it easy to get referrals form other GC's about their subs? It would be also nice to hear some horror stories about new subs that didn't quite worked out

Re: Finding New (good) Subs
I do get & give referrals to other GC's I find this is the best way to find new subs.
I also stop when I am driving and I see a crew working, I examine the job if I see what I like I will talk to them and find out if they are a good match to my company. |

Re: Finding New (good) Subs
I get and give also. I've also found some great subs through my other subs. It means a lot to me if a sub refers someone whos work comes before his. To me, that means he/she trusts him. (ie.. window guy refers a framer, painter refers a drywall company etc..)
As for bad subs...I could give you a list! I had the precast guy that drove me to drink! |

Re: Finding New (good) Subs
When subbing out work the biggest problem is having control, once you learn to achieve control you are golden.
