Re: Filling In A Pool With Dirt

in most states you need a permit for a fill in, as a
pool is considered an outbuilding.....
generally the walls have to be removed & depending on depth floor also.... reason being if the home is sold & new owner goes to dig for an other outbuild they will not hit a pool.... if you do a "midnight fill in" an inspector may bag you, but you & ho will definitely get pinched when the town revaluation comes or house is offered for sale..... as far as punching holes, good chance you will end up with drainage problems.... wrecking ball

Re: Filling In A Pool With Dirt

I know this is done alot. My parents have a useless inground pool (now a swamp) that has not been opened up in 6 or 7 years....

Anyway, I saw this done for the first time last year. Across the street from me, my neighbors did it. They pulled a permit (noisy, noisy work - so that was smart)

Pool completely drained.
Guy used an excavator and a heavy boulder. He dropped it repeatedly to break up the bottom of the pool (concrete?).
They then ripped out the old metal liner and all the insides and hauled them away (Recycling most likely)
Next day, they dropped a load of dirt. Bulldozer came in and filled and leveled it all off.

They had to take down a section of chain link fence by pulling a post out of the ground and temporarily rolling it up.
When all was done, they regraded everything and re-installed the fence.
