Extreme Home Makeover Has Come to Town
Have any of you worked on one of these?
Apparently Ty and his bull horn have come to town here to renovate another house for "the most deserving family ever." I've often wondered how these projects are put together and what goes on after the cameras are gone.
Here's an interesting article about the aftermath of these shows and what can happen to the homeowners unprepared to deal with the increased costs and maintenance involved with these houses:

2005-2007 at least 3 or 4 of the shows called us. After speaking to them on the phone, two of them we met the host in person we declined.
It is not what it is cracked up to be. You would not be interested at all Chris

I'm not saying the owner isn't worthy or it won't make for good tv, but I'm definitely not interested in working on it--they're already working with another larger building company anyway. It's in a part of town where I used to do HUD work many years ago.
I worked on a very small project last year for the Rachael Ray Show... That was more than enough to tide me over for awhile.

And who would have thought that something slammed together so quickly would have problems?

Projects like that do bring people together and are fun to work on. Sometimes it's good to come together under a serious crunch--the sacrifice and camaraderie can be very rewarding.
I only hope the end result isn't something that becomes a burden for the new HOs, as it appears some projects have in the past.
I think the H4H program is much more comprehensive in educating their HOs in that regard.

Tv's extreme makeover
They did a house in Manchester, N.H.....called our company to do the siding,.....
A. All materials have to be donated.
B. Labor is donated.
--I initially thought it'd be a great idea, specifically if we were able to get a few pictures of the job (our portion or work) as well as possibly a picture with some of the tv personalities, and perhaps implement them with our display at the area home shows we do.
-WRONG-
A. They LEND you the blue "home-makeover" shirts, and after your work is complete you're expected to give the shirt back.
B. You're not to use photos taken from the site for any type of advertising.
C. They even sometimes take your cell phone while your on-site.
Funny thing is though,...One of the last home shows we did, the guy set up next to me did some septic work for the build, and had a very nice 20x30 picture of him and TY with the caption of "AS SEEN ON ABC'S EXTREME HOME-MAKEOVER"......
LOL
