Ever Have One Of Those Weeks

Well I thought I'd vent a little. Well Monday morning I get a call for my plumbing supplier, they said a tub I ordered is real behind scedule and will be about 4 weeks late. I will have to pospone my next bathroom job. Then last night I went to look at a job for a guy, he wanted a wall taken out, some trim and a new bathroom. He had his dad come over and go over it with us needless to say I spent the entire night listening to his dad tell me I was crazy and it wasn't that involved and it really didn't cost that much, etc. I don't think I will be doing that job. Then for the final kicker this morning I go to the job I am doing now, a bathroom . I got there and the wife homeowner was home, she said, me and my husband just decieded we are getting a divorce, he is coming home early today to go over stuff, we are signing the papers tomorrow. Now I am right in the middle of a two bathroom remodel and they owe me about $8500.00 total still in draws. I could tell the husband really didn't want the remodel in the first place, so I got a little worried. And he is a lawyer so I was thinging the worst. Talk about a day of anxiety! To make a long story short, at the end of the day the HO's pulled me aside and said don't worry about anything and to precede and not to worry about payment. Any tips? Anyone deal with this before?

PS sorry for the long post, just had to let it out lol

Finish the job, you'll get paid, they can't do much with the house if there is a mechanic's lien against it.

I would ask you; who's writing the checks, him or her. Who's staying, him or her? That might be your answer.

Sorry to hear about that though, that is a bad situation!

Can't do much with a house that has no bathroom either

I guess it all depends on how far the job has progressed along.

Gotta get your money either way.

Re: Ever Have One Of Those Weeks

Thanks guys, Well the one bath should be done in about 2 days then the other one by the end of next week. Like I said I feel pretty secure I have done work for theses people in the past and trust them, but you never know. I figure he is a lawyer so hes got cheap legal services at his disposal if something did happen . I am deffinetly gonna talk to them more tomorrow about it. They do owe me some money tomorrow so we will see how that goes. One thing this has taught me is that I am WAY to trusting and I am gonna make my draws a lot bigger int the beginning I don't care if the last one is $5.00. I beleive from what I heard he is staying she is moving.

Re: Ever Have One Of Those Weeks

Well I thought I'd update you guys. I talked to the homeowners today, and before I even said anything the wife asked if she could pay me on friday. She said she cashed in stocks or something like that and she would write me a check for $7500.00. And then the husband agreed to pay the rest apon completion, there are some extras on the job so the final total will be different. He was real cool about the whole thing, he said he was very sorry and wasn't sure why she told me about the whole thing. And that he was staying and will deffinetly need me in the future. So I do feel pretty good, but a lot better on fri The funny part is I gave them a price for two baths and also a master bedroom suite addition, no wonder the husband didn't want to do the addition so bad. I wonder if he had something planned?

Hope you make out OK. Lawyers are always cool under pressure.

I've heard a lot of bad endings to stories that start with "I did this job for a guy who's a lawyer".

Best of luck to ya, let us know. I'd like to hear one with a happy ending
