Estimating Software

I'm going on three years in business, mostly residential remodeles. This year I want to go into my first home addition, then into building new homes. Having trouble finding a software to help me in the bidding process. Does anybody have any recommendations??

Re: Estimating Software

What do you want the software to do for you??

How many people will use the software?

How do you estimate now?

Where do you get the numbers for you estimate from?

Answer these and I can give you some suggestions

Re: Estimating Software

I want the software to help me in the actual labor cost.
I would be the only one using it at this point.
What I do now is I figure hours/materials it will take per job; then I submit a bid with total cost.

This is basically how I do most of my estimates but have not profitted much. I try to bid an hour about $20-$30.

Thanks

Re: Estimating Software

I haven't used any software for the bidding process.
Don't really have a price range.
I am open to online software "web based" not real familiar though.
Not using any excel but familiar with it.

Thanks

Re: Estimating Software

AttcHandyman - it doesn't sound like you need software but need to learn how to actually price work to include your OH costs, etc... On this site I suggest you start with this post http://www.contractortalk.com/f16/pricing-estimating-success-27899/ - then maybe check out Michael Stone's site on Markup & Profit

As a side note, it would be nice if you posted an Intro here http://www.contractortalk.com/f44/ & put your location in your profile

Good catch this maybe the case I overlooked it completely trying to find a software and may have missed the bigger picture

Re: Estimating Software

Good luck on this mission I could not tell if you needed software for writing a bid or finding your cost.
