Employee's Xmas Bonus???

Not all of the members on this forum are business owners. Many are trades people who are employed by someone else (like myself). This question is for the employees. Did you get a Chistmas bonus? If so, what was it??? Were you happy with your bonus or disappointed???

Re: Employee's Xmas Bonus???

Hmmm guess I shouldnt have left early Friday

I left early on Friday so I missed my bosses arrival at 3:26 with my bonus.....I spoke to one of my helpers and who stuck around and they said they got $500 dollars, we shall see what I got.

$500-700 seems to be the yearly average with the company I am employed with. I cant complain about that

I gave my office manager 5.1%. I called around and people who gave bonus' gave between 3-5%, just to be above the norm, I had to add the extra .1%.

Re: Employee's Xmas Bonus???

Thanx for the posts guys. But most of you are business owners. Where are the employees???

You see, the opinion of how good a Christmas bonus is will be different in the eyes of the employer compared to the eyes of an employee. That's the purpose of this thread. I'm happy you business owners had the heart to give a bonus (some gave more than the average). There was a thread recently about what employers give for bonuses. I was trying to find out from the actual employees if they were happy with their bonus. This way we can all see where we stand...

MD, if you were working up here, the best Xmas bonus you would ever receive would be to find a qualified person to add to your staff. The bonus would not be to the employee but to you just to find someone (it's crazy busy)!!!

I did a poll not too long ago...this might explain the delay in answers from employees

The employee's are busy spending their bonus'. Owners have no money left after giving the bonus' thats why they are here

Re: Employee's Xmas Bonus???

The way my boss did bonuses when I was a employee was fair. Your first year you got 5 cents an hour you worked. Next year 10 cents. After so long it would in crease even greater. I was gettting like 1500 after 5 or 6 years.I got like That way every guy got an extra envelope at christmas payday. The thing is he set this money aside all year. He could have just payed us more all year but this technique is a company moral booster. Most guys didnt even know he had a formula.

I did a post and poll awhile back see here.

http://www.contractortalk.com/showth...t=14062&page=2

As you can see most on here do not give a bonus, so your asking the wrong crowd.

I did get a bonus, I got $500 and was happy for the amount, It made getting gifts for the family that much more fun. So I can only thank my boss for being scroogless.

Great point and funny . Please realize I used to run my own operation for many years. So even though I've gone back to being an employee, I have a total understanding of what it's like to run a business and have employees (in my case only two). I gave them each a $500 bonus for the few years they worked for me. Honestly, that's all I could afford. But it was worth it to keep them busting their butts for me and let them know they were appreciated. And as far as I know they were happy with their bonus.

Some truth in what I said, my office manager just e-mailed to see if I can cover the office so she can go shopping in the morning. Must not of spent her x-mas bonus yet

Re: Employee's Xmas Bonus???

No bonuses at my company. We did get a company Christmas party with an open bar. That was a nice touch.

Re: Employee's Xmas Bonus???

My subs get a $100 gift certificate and a smoked ham...my appreciation for them, and I usually get them when I need them. My guys get $100 and the ham, or a turkey, and the second year, it is $500...last year, my right hand guy got $1000...he didn't get a bonus this year since he works for someone else.

Re: Employee's Xmas Bonus???

Last year my right hand man got a $2000 cash bonus plus the two weeks off paid . I gave him the envelope at lunch and it was the last I ever heard of it. No thanks, call or anything

I decided that this year it would be different.
It saves me trips into town if he can take digital photos and e-mail them to me. His old computer couldn't do this. I bought him a new one with monitor at Walmart for $399
Gave him 4 days off since we are busy this xmas season.
Still never heard anything.
But it is business, and when the time is right my main man of 10+ years will be looking for another job

Re: Employee's Xmas Bonus???

The one lighting co. I worked pt for for 6 years had a 3% year end bonus built in to the pay structure. If you quit before years end the boss kept the 3%. I thought it was prtetty slick and came in handy around the holidays. There were other completion/production bonuses throughout the year but the 3% was solid.

I think calling it a "year end bonus" creates less trouble. Hams and turkeys for Christmas.

Re: Employee's Xmas Bonus???

When I had employees I would call my main supplier, who just happened to run a "20% off all hand tools" sale the middle of Dec every year, and tell them to let each guy charge $200 of tools.
