Eco Or Green Building
I was wondering if anyone specalizes or dabbles in any type of "green" building principles or ecologically friendly building materials. To elaborate I am referring to passive solar sytems, gray water redistribution, low flow or composting toilets, low or no voc paints, placement or windows to facilitate the most natural light as possible, sun tubes, environmentally friendly insulation products (fiberglass insulation is a horrible insulator but still the industry norm) concrete counter tops, low flow plumbing products, high output boilers such as the System 2000, ect.
The reason I ask this is I am in the process of setting up a niche "green consruction" business in my area and would like to here any advice on the topic. Obviously, standard bulding principles and mateials would still be used in many facets, but several small changes could lower a clients enegy costs by as much as 75%, at the same time allowing myself to create a niche in the construction/remodeling field with little or no competition and a seemingly growing demand. Any input or ideas would be greatly appreciated |
