Don't have to spend so much time chasing them because they rolled away from where you lay them .

Re: Dumb Question???

well, this isn't a funny answer ,,
but

there flat, and big, cause we make a lot of heavy lines , and big marks on lots of rough framing lumber and everything else,

if they were not flat and big, they would just,,,,,,,,,,,break

Kind of what I was saying...and BTW, how many of us in learning under an experienced guy were told to "take the line" or "leave the line" when cutting framing or trim? Try that with a #2 pencil, leaving heavy marks, and it won't happen.

Re: Dumb Question???

Two reasons. First so they won't roll. Second because your marking on wood so they want a heavier lead so it can be seen.

These guys are just messin' with ya. Everyone knows you can stir your coffee better with a flat pencil than a round one.
