Dont You Love Getting Looked At Like Your Crazy?

There has got to be no better feeling that when you submit your estimate for a project and have the HO look at you like you have lost your mind. I even lowered my price a bit and still I got the crazy look along with explainations about whoever they knew got more done for less. She claimed her parents had a one acre lot fenced with vinyl for $4000, she did not see how it was possible that her estimate was over $7000 for the same style on her smaller lot.

I am the most reasonably priced legit company in my area. I cant wait for them to open the phonebook and get some more estimates, they are really going to be blown away.

I don't 'love' it, I have just learned to expect it.

Re: Dont You Love Getting Looked At Like Your Crazy?

An elderly woman called me out to look at fixing her roof. She had a flat roof on an old (80+ years) and small (1,200 sf) adobe house here in Albuquerque. She wanted to build a pitched roof on the house so she wouldn't need to deal with a continuous series of leaks. I gave her a price of about $18,000 and she almost fainted. I asked her what she expected. She explained, the only thing she knew about construction costs was that her father bought the house for $5,000 in the 1910's. Understanding that prices had risen but she only wanted a roof not a whole house, she was expecting about $3,000.

Oh Well.

Re: Dont You Love Getting Looked At Like Your Crazy?

hang in there, i get the same here on decks.

i gave someone a estimate for a composite deck, a week later called to follow up and the guy said i was way over by 4k..i said impossible, triple checked my #s called him back and told him i should be well within 500 of any legit deck builder.

got the customer talking and told me the other contractor was also gonna use azek decking..hmmm.i told him sunds to good to be true but apperently people these days work for FREE. i was truely out bid buy un der 4k for a 560 sq ft deck i figured all the material and got 4 different quotes on material.

if this contractor could build a azek deck from the ground up with 12-14 footings, double girders,2 sets of steps, railings, lattice, 3.5' in the air for 3k above materials then he can have this deck and all the others...!

Thats it exactly. It even resembles the husband.

The best part is that they were bragging about how they picked the largest lot in the subdivision so they could enjoy their yard. The subdivision requires vinyl stockade fencing so they are either gonna have to fork over the cash or forget about a fence.

I just started using a new vinyl supplier with great prices and my new prices turnkey aren't too much more than if they went to HD and got the material and went DIY on it.

I gave up on those people who drink cheep beer. Now I only work for the martini crowd. Might be a bit picky but, picky costs extra.

Re: Dont You Love Getting Looked At Like Your Crazy?

One acre in vinyl for $4K Yea, right.
That is a 1 acre lot, with the house setback 3/4 of the way and they did the postage stamp backyard for $4k

how many linear feet is this house for $7k?
