Does Work Get Slow In The Winter??

I was wondering how work is for you guys in the winter months. I would think it would slow down some. I guess the southern states like TX and FL probably work about the same all year around. I think up here in the cold it really slows down the concrete guys.

Not usually for me, but I know the concrete guys , landscapers, and roofers usually get a little slow, but a lot of them plow snow in the winter to make up for it.

The only slow time I can recall was winter time 1991-1992.

Definitely depends upon what you offer. I shut down operations from Thanksgiving to April 1st. I pay one operations manager a full year salary to keep me out of the field. I switched this year to all part time employees. Its worked out very well. NO UC claims and when one employee cannot work there are plenty to step in to fill his space. Besides the carpentry work on decks, a new employee can be trained and up and running in one week. I use the winter to firm up marketing plans, travel, meet with other contractors around the country etc. I don't sweat the winter anymore, I look forward to the break.

Nationwide, beyond climate issues, there is a trend to see things slow in Jan as Christmas spending comes due on those credit cards, usually it starts to loosen again towards April as people start anticipating tax refunds. Of course there are pockets all over the country that will not reflect this trend, but it's a pretty average one that you will see in most areas.
