DIY Network

I was working on the laptop just now with the DIY Network on in the background. My ears perked up when I heard them discussing installation of pre-hung doors in a basement. I watched in wonderment as they nailed the doors in place and then explained that no shims were needed. They simply used low expansion foam to fill the voids where shims should go.

Is this the new technique and I am just behind the times? Maybe I should go back for a refresher course..

I put that show in the same category as thinking Extreme Makeover builds good homes.

It is true that all contractors are 6' 4" hunks that wear Baby GAP t~shirts, and all interior decorators are hot well kept middle aged women.

I learned that on the D.I.Y. nutwork and you will never convince me otherwise...

You still use shims?

Think of all the money you're wasting!

Re: DIY Network

I saw that. It looked interesting. He did use a hell of alot of it. I figured you would have to use shims for the first few nails to hold the door jam in place. But then I dont see what is so bad about using shims anyway. I have decided to try a combination. A few less shim points and a full foam suround. I'll let you know how it goes
