Different Dust Mask

I have 3 or 4 different 3m dust masks that I try to use when I should. But to be honest there are a ton of times where I should go grab one but don't take the time. When I'm doing something quick I just do it and don't go get the proper mask. If I'm sanding drywall or spraying paint or something like that I do try to use a mask.

So, is there some sort of quick and dirty dust mask? I'm thinking some type of cloth I can just pull over my mouth and nose. I realize it's not going to be the right filtering but it's also going to be better then nothing. And I would only use it for certain things. Even things like drilling holes in wood or sweeping or whatever. Be nice if there was something that l could just leave around my neck so it's always with me and then just pull up when needed. Think I would use it a lot more if it was right there ready to go.

Does anyone use some kind of dust mask like this?

Re: Different Dust Mask

No idea if there is anything out there but it would be a great idea.

On a related safety note I just picked up a pair of bone conduction headphones that let me wear earplugs and still listen to music. No I find myself always wearing ear plug.

Re: Different Dust Mask

We all use the half face respirators from 3M. You can keep it looped around your neck if you want, but I certainly can't see walking around all day with it or any mask for that matter always on.

I wear it for anything that irritates me. I'm fairly sensitive to dust, even just a few cuts on the miter saw in the shop without dust collection gets my nose running and I'll start coughing. I hate the little white masks with the yellow strings compared to my respirator. I keep one respirator in the shop and one in the truck so I've always got one where I am.

I don't know if the dental/doctor style mask might be more what you're going for regarding easy, quick deployment.

Re: Different Dust Mask

I have one of these shirts, I use it occasionally. It's a little bulky around the neck when you don't have the mask on, and it's not really rated for anything, but it's better than nothing!

Re: Different Dust Mask

The most comfortable mask I have found is an N100 that is easily deployed when you need it and it can hang around your neck when not needed.

I absolutely hate wearing a mask. Typical mask is hard to breath through, leaks anyway and fogs up my eyeglasses. These do none of that, the exhale valve is better than any of the N95 masks I have worn. They ain't cheap but when the difference is an uncomfortable mask that won't be used and one of these that is quite tolerable, I'll take one of these.

This really got me thinking. I think I am going to pickup a motorcycle dust mask.

Re: Different Dust Mask

I keep a 3M respirator in the truck but don't like working in it, plus it fogs up my glasses at some angles. I have a ATV/dirt bike one I got at Cabelas that is more comfortable but only if I am looking downward. It's almost a good design.

Thank you for the link. I'm going to pick one of these up and try it out. Sounds like it's exactly what I was picturing in my head of what I wanted.

Re: Different Dust Mask

I keep a bunch of the 3M N95 dust masks spread around in zip lock bags. That way I never have an excuse. Safety glasses are kept on my person in a case so they are clean and ready to go.

Often though I just use a breath hold and walk away. Nice to be able to easily go a minute without breathing. Known to do that spray painting from a can...

Yep, bandana... simple and comfortable. It can also be used in hot weather by wetting it down and slinging it over your head or neck. Good for bad cuts and such ...and bandanas are just plain cool.

I'm not sure they'd be much help in a fracking caused earthquake though.

I've heard that the 3M quick latch masks are convenient for frequent on/off.

What colors you representin'?

Quote:
Bandanas
The most recognizable form of gang affiliation is based on color. Bandanas come in a wide range of colors and can be paired with other pieces of clothing to represent all colors of the gang.[8] Not only are bandanas an easy way to show gang affiliation they are also easy to remove if the situation calls for it (i.e. if confronted by law enforcement). Gang members are known for wearing bandanas around their face as a mask, or in their pocket, with it sticking out.

I have a couple very similar. They are comfortable, I've worn them all day on many occasions for chemicals.

I was thinking the same thing. I don't want to look like a bank robber either, there are better ways.
