Did I Really Dial That Number ???

So I am shopping online @ Sears, and find something to buy that I don't already have

Go through the whole checkout process....only to see:
Your credit card info cannot be verified, please check the info and try again.

Ok.
Go through the process 3 more times

Fed up, I flip my Sears/MasterCard over and dial the number: 1-800-569-8488

What the ....

I think I'm a bit dyslexic, so I redial....same thing.

I get the Mrs. to dial the phone...then she smacks me

What the hell...YOU dialed it ~ stop hitting me.

Finally get in touch with Citi using a different number...seems my CC has been "closed due to inactivity".

Clearly I am doing my part with this whole state of the economy we are in.

Re: Did I Really Dial That Number ???

JF, I had that card since like '03...."expires" in 2011.

That really isn't as much the issue as the tele number that was on the card....the number does NOT lead to Citi, Sears, or even MC.

Did they answer the phone with "Me love you long time... $2.99/min"?

Re: Did I Really Dial That Number ???

Here are new rules for the new economy (bad for customers, good for all card lenders)

1. Card's inactivity (> 1+ year) with ZERO balances will be canceled, closed, terminated;

2. Card' credit limit over $10,000 will be reduced to probably $1K-3K or 5K according to card holder's new lowering or reducing credit scores (frequently run & updated by their comp system)

3. Any future late payment (even one day late payment) will have a jacked up interest to at least 27%, if not 30%!

Reasons (for 1-3) ==>> New laws come out from congress allowed for all bank/card producers to do that... because they want to prevent too many BANKRUPTCY, FORCLOSURES, and DEFAULTS in this bad...bad..bad...economy plus too many card hackers plus too many identifty thefts had occured in the past.

We are now living in a cash-cow economy only.. no more easy paper or instant gratification credit economy.

Had the same deal a year ago Xmas,
but I was in store.....embarrassing.
At that time though they said it was
just put into some kind of hibernation state.
I just had to make a call and say some
magic words and it was good to go.

While it was different to hear someone other than the Mrs. panting for me...it was definitely "strange"....imagine a naughty version of "Lava Life".
That may be why the Mrs. belted me

I think #1 is what happened with my Sears/Citi/MC ...I think I used it maybe 3x in the past 5 years ....snow thrower...table saw...sockets & ratchets.

My Amex is another story....I called them after Citi, because my Amex card has literally split in two.
They UPPED my credit to over 20k ....thanks, but no thanks ~ that amount won't be getting charged to my personal card

You could have just filled out the several line application and gotten a new Sears card and then also would have gotten an extra 10% off on your purchase.

I bought my new Plasma TV that way and also got 18 months at Zero Percent to go along with it.

Yea...the people at Citi made that same offer...NEGATIVE GHOSTRIDER
[The line went dead when I said that to "Holly"...LOL....then a "HUH?]

I'll get a new one when I see some large item at Sears that I want....when it is on sale...and they offer an additional 10% off if you sign up for a card and use it.

Re: Did I Really Dial That Number ???

I have an advanta mc (the phooks), had a nice little balance (18k) from a transfer, good rate...the bastiges raised it from 3.99 to 32 %!!!!!!! ....after only 2 months....now we, know frome ed's old thread what a pita advanta is...

I called and got the obligatory blueberry slurpee on the the other end telling me he could do nothing....and I asked "would you rather make 0% or 4%"...."no, i'm sorry sir nothing we can do"...I paid it off instantly, so of course the idiots are now calling me.......and I won't take their calls...idiots.

Get ready for a lot more of this crap...I think they have until mid 2010 to pull the kind of crap before some of the new legislature takes effect...

My amex got declined at homo depo last night. When I called them they said " Your puchase was not within your normal spending habits".
I think i put carpenter on my application 20 yrs ago. Where else would I use my card?

Re: Did I Really Dial That Number ???

I forget which card exactly....but there was a period where EVER dam purchase required a phonecall.
Some BS about it "not being in our spending habit" ...I asked them "Do you think I am loyal to any one particular CC?"
The silence was deafening...and they still called...until I told them "CANCEL".

The APR wasn't fantastic, credit limit was average....WTF?
They must have had a slow couple of months.
