If it isn't worth the hassle of selling it on Craigslist, it isn't worth the hassle of keeping it.

Well at least you won't miss it when it's gone.

Re: Decluttering Everything.. What Do You Keep And What Do You Throw?

Hardware is the biggie for me....tons of it...everything imaginable and at todays prices? I'm not throwing any away..I have probably 300lbs of hand drive 16d's who uses them anymore?...Hinges...sheet metal screws, handles, pulls, you name it, it's in the shop or garage somewhere. Even my wife has convinced me don't throw any hardware away..it's just the odds and ends all thrown together that drive me nuts, but at least once a year I'll dig through it looking for something and there's an 80% chance I'll find it within 30 minutes....nice for those low budget dog chit jobs or something around the house.

The clutter however does drive me nuts and it's time for a purge....I just don't want to have to rent a damn dumpster to clean it all out

Anybody have any use for an old Craftsman Planer/molder? Come get it. it's huge, it's heavy and my wife will be happy when it's out of the garage

Re: Decluttering Everything.. What Do You Keep And What Do You Throw?

I'm getting ready to sell a 6000 sq ft building that used to be our shop. But for the last 4 years, it's just been a warehouse. A very full, warehouse. I'm not even looking forward to sorting through everything in that old building. Some is going to auction, some is coming to the new shop & some is going to the dump. Not gonna be fun, now way, no how.

There's probably 3-4000 bd ft of assorted hardwood lumber that we've collected for years. Lots of antique architecture. Lots of antique ceiling tin. Lots of antique furniture from the days gone by when we used to do restorations. Then, there's a lot of junk too.

I'll keep some antique architectural stuff, but mainly as repair parts.

Despite this thread, I just threw a 3/4 full roll of Tyvek into the shed. I think I have a real problem...

I use that for temporarily covering stuff, so I tend to have a partial roll on hand.

I seen a first for me yesterday. Stopped in to check on a floor sanding job we're doing in a couple weeks. Wanted to refresh my memory since it's been a year since I looked at the job. Didn't get to see anything, because the contractor had covered the floors & stairs with housewrap to keep sheetrock texture & paint off of my floors.

Yup, you just have to have the printing up, or you can get transfer....

Same thing with cardboard boxes, but cardboard can do funky things to a floor finish.

Re: Decluttering Everything.. What Do You Keep And What Do You Throw?

I had to walk sideways to get through here last week. Now I've got a lot of it tuned in. More organized......feels good.

The worst part is fighting with my hoarder mentality excuses............But I will keep this so i wont need to spend money on it next time I need it.......I can use that somewhere on a job one day........blah blah blah.

Truth is. I hide my own Easter eggs. The most things won't cost much to replace it (putty....half gallon of what ever. Painter's tape from 2012) chances are I'll buy a new one even if I have one in the shop.

At the end of the day things get piled up closing the walking path. It feels good to get it opened up and roomie again took most of the weekend though.

2 yard dumpster at the shop, anything metal goes into my big wire basket.

Make a scrap run once a month.

Chips and SLR off cuts are my biggest issue.

Re: Decluttering Everything.. What Do You Keep And What Do You Throw?

for me there are somethings that store well and others that after a few months or so can't be used, many of my jobs these days are very different in material selection...

I do save starter/metal soffit j/coil and rolls of underlayment and pvc trim

i have a small amount of framing lumber and a few sheets of ply in my racks

Re: Decluttering Everything.. What Do You Keep And What Do You Throw?

Ringing in the new year by cleaning up. Spent last night till 1 or 2am cleaning up. I swear I can hide my own Easter eggs and be surprised when I find them.

Emptied 8 of these big totes so far.

It will feel good to put a big dent in all this.

I keep flipping and flopping on stuff. (I'll use these electrical boxes ones day..........f it.......donate them to habitat........we all know i would just go get what I need for a new project anyway.)

Yeah totally!.........I'm not emotionally attach to any of your tools. Nor do I care how much you spent on materials or parts. I'll clean it out so much that you'll be able to park two cars in that single car garage.

All I need is a six pack of red bull and a loud radio.....And some cookies!
