Deck Expo. Is Anybody Going?

The Deck Dock and Railing Expo is in Las Vegas this year. Are any of you planning to attend?

I am going to drive down from Utah to attend. I went two years ago when they had it in Tampa FL. I could not afford to attend all the training classes, but this year things are going good and I am signing up for the classes.

For those of you that may be going, what classes if any are you thinking of attending?

Unless it's snowing a lot, my brother & I will be there.
We're flying in just for the show, we can't afford to stay away too long....

Thanks for the compliment Chris. I spent many late nights trying to make it look good.

Even If all you attend is the show, you won't be disappointed. There are so many cool Ideas out there.

I went two years ago when I had just started to dabble more into the deck building. I didn't take the show as serious as I should have. I think I spent more time trying to get free T-shirts.

This year I am looking for things to upsell my clients on. That is where the money is.

Interesting thought. We've dabbled in a little deck/landscape lighting. If they bite, it's a nice upgrade.

This year we're not just pushing Trex, but will have a decking & railing options. I'm thinking of offering the design we talk thru, XX price for this, XX for that, *** for the last. With a few upgrade options and a possible price per month if they take the 12 month payment plan.

I don't want to overload them, but I want them to see the options with us, not us vs the other guys- know what I mean?

Re: Deck Expo. Is Anybody Going?

Matt

That is very smart to give them alot of options. One of my competitors offers only vinyl railing. I have taken a couple of jobs from them because I gave the client more options.

There are many factors to consider for the proper looking rail. If my clients have a breathtaking view I offer glass sheeted railing. If it is on a cabin, we may want to use an earthy colored composite railing. If the have white vinly fencing we may want to go with white vinly.

My most popular railing has been the bench seating. You by the brackets from the home depot.

That is the advantage of attending the Deck Expo. You will have a tons of options to help you satisfy the client.

Re: Deck Expo. Is Anybody Going?

No I don't I am not ready to start marketing my franchising yet. The legals and the name change are taking much longer than I expected.
Although, being in the reno business, I suppose I should have known this.

Anyway, we are definitely booked and paid for Deck Expo. I am bringing my foreman and his wife as well but only for 4 days. We've down for 10 days: we're renting a Mustang vert and going on a driving tour to Arizona, New MExico, etc. (gonna do Route 66!). Then we'll be in Vegas for about 4 days with my foreman, and then back home.
Looking forward to meeting up with you guys!

The BESt thing is, I'm doing the WHOLE trip, with car and hotel, on points!!!

Re: Deck Expo. Is Anybody Going?

I registered two day ago. That would be very cool to meet up. I will pm all those that are going and swap cell numbers.

Are any of you going to go to any evening shows?
What classes are you all attending?

ditto, I too am points whore and a travel junkie, every couple of months chase sends me an offer for 20kpoints for some new card and a complimentary guest fare with purchase of a fare in the 48, so the double dipping adds up like a mofo

Re: Deck Expo. Is Anybody Going?

1:47 yesterday and I am not going (last post) and as of 1:30 am last night I am going. Waiting on getting tickets since 2 of my guys want to tag along. The logistics of changing schedules with less than a week is not an easy task.

Is Nathan holding a CT coffee hour for us?

Re: Deck Expo. Is Anybody Going?

The only problem with me using points is Amex's airfare/lodging prices are 50% more than www.vegas.com . Oh well, small money if I stay in a dumpster, $295 roundtrip with two nights lodging. I've spent that on one night at a nice hotel there with the wife.
