By coincidence, just today for grins and giggles I tried trimming a 1x3 piece of marble with a diamond blade on my grinder. No matter how slow and careful I was, it chipped and flaked six ways from Sunday. Fortunately, it was a waste piece that was being discarded anyway. |

Wood working tools work on it. (It's plastic & resin with some marble dust)
Big piece to cut off use a skill saw. Just a smidge you can work it with a belt sander. Wear a mask! |

Re: Cutting A Cultured Marble Counter Top
Like Mike said, turn it over,
cut it from the back, and support it so the cut piece doesn't fall away. I've used a carbide or diamond blade.

Re: Cutting A Cultured Marble Counter Top
I've always used a router. Gives a nice clean cut and no "dust" to worry about. I do wear a resp and safety goggles. The guy who showed me how to cut with a router was a manufacturer of cultured marble tops and panels.

Re: Cutting A Cultured Marble Counter Top
Good new carbide blade will do the job. Cut the top being upside down. If there is a wall on one or both sides, backsplash will cover any imperfections, if not straighten it out with a wet sander, sanding sponges work best.
Good luck

Re: Cutting A Cultured Marble Counter Top
I stopped using cultured marble a few years ago (got sick of it!!) but I have done lots in the past. I always used a masonry blade either in a skill saw or grinder (smaller one). No chipping - pretty clean cut.

Yes
I also used to use carbide grit jig saw blades for cut-outs |

Re: Cutting A Cultured Marble Counter Top
does anyone have advise on 'polishing' surface abrasions? I set a paint can on the counter and it caused some scuffing.

Re: Cutting A Cultured Marble Counter Top
I had a builder call me today to see if I was interested in setting some vanity tops. So I checked it out and all of the tops will have to be trimmed to fit. the backsplashes are already built into the tops but the side splashes will also have to be trimmed to fit the profile of the backsplash.
Since only about 1/8" needs to come off the tops due to walls not square I'm thinking about trying to shave them with a belt sander. is this a viable option to fit them to the wall. or would I be pissing in the wind trying to get 1/8th off with a beltsander? forgot to mention that these are also cultured marble to the best of my knowledge |

You can fine tune it with a grinder using a disc pad and 150 grit. |
