Crazy Callbacks!

Hey guys, what are some crazy callbacks you have had from jobs?

I went to one today. On a recently finished bathroom I did, the HO called two days ago and said the medicine chest wouldn't close all the way and latch. I went there looked at it and removed the container that was too fat for the cabinet.

I put a 8' bay window in for a guy a while back and he kept calling me back and saying that everytime he sat on the couch in front of the bay window his neck hurt. He couldn't figure it out he even had an infared thermometer and measured wall temp. and the window pane temp and insisted that the window was defective because the wall temp was warmer than the window glass. What a pain in the butt, but to this day this guy still calls me and begs me to do more work for him! I'm like ya right.

What are some you guys have had?

Dave

Re: Crazy Callbacks!

I was painting a condo exterior wall by a deck on a unit the entire exterior crew was avoiding. One of those customers who made sure it was known that "I now how to paint cause I used to paint houses......" types. I soon as I finished the wall, she was out there complaining that the paint look "streaky" and what a bad job it was. Then she touched the wall........."Oh, it is still wet" I guess she missed the lesson about paint drying.

I suppose it was not technically a call back since I did not have time to even leave the site, but crazy non the less.

Remodeled a kitchen once and installed all the appliances we were going back the next day to clean and touch up the paint. homeowner calls and says the hood vent has a light green color to it and thought it was wrong because it should be pure stainless steel. Go over to the house the next day my guys had left the plastic film on the vent so the could touch up the paint and peel it off once they were done

Why did his house burn down?

Plumbers don't get callbacks.

I think he was kidding...and plumbers do get call-backs, especially when water lines that were never soldered start leaking water into the drywall.

Re: Crazy Callbacks!

Installed some rain gutters on a ladys house. And about a month later get a call back that the gutters are not cathing all the water. So i go out and she says there not working. Ok so whats not working she says my patio is sttill getting wet(20 feet away from the house). I didn't know what to say she actaully thought they would grab all the water from the sky and go in the raingutter. She was pissed.

Re: Crazy Callbacks!

No flybacks for plumbers?

How about the one that sweated a fitting with the pipe inserted only about 1/8" into the fitting and flooded the entire lower floor of the house?

A bath remod. The plumber turned off the house valve on Fri. and thought that the drip coming out of one of the sink stubs was just residual water in the pipe and propped a 5 gal. bucket under it. Mon. morning the master bedroom was flooded.

I could go on. Those were just the biggest and best.

Re: Crazy Callbacks!

New house, shortly after the homeowner moved in:

"The lightswtich for the studio doesn't work"

Arrived and found the light switch was smashed. "Yeah, no kidding?"

I think the movers bumped it pretty hard with something.

they do when they forget to run the pipe from the kitchen drain to the main sewer line, and then everything gets sheet rocked over. The sink gets used for the first time, and the person in the room below wonders where all the water is coming from.
seen it happen.

Did punch-out work on a vacation home. Customer stays in it a month later and says "Someone has been taking a bath in our bathtub because it's dirty" "Went to check it out and it was just a bunch of small dead gnats. Told them to hire an exterminator.

Re: Crazy Callbacks!

Got a call back last year (1st one) the HO said,"My floor is buckled". OK. whent to check it out (2hr. drive).
Crazy callbacks!-misc.-pics-july-07-013.jpg
I can't imagine why the floor buckled.
Apparently the HO had a GREAT idea, he would save money by "Chinking" the logs himself. But why chink them when the framer was done with the frame? After all, the logs are only going to shrink then he'll have to chink them again. This was my most PITA customer yet. Aint karma a bitch?

Re: Crazy Callbacks!

Did an extension and renovation last year and the owners ased me to return and what they asked me to do was to fill these small pin prick holes on plasterboard sheeting we did there. To see these holes, I had to look right up close to see. So I agreed to fill them and then repaint the affected areas. I soon worked out that our plasterer did not sand after he stopped the job enough. So the girls were happy then. Things I do eh?

Re: Crazy Callbacks!

The homeowner complained that they could not find where the carpet was seamed together. For real!!!

Another, the elderly lady call the store and said after I lifted the walls to roll out her new carpet, her walls were not level?? Because she could not see the seams as she has in her past homes, she thought I lifted the walls and rolled out the carpet to avoid seams.

Re: Crazy Callbacks!

Been accused of shifting 60' of chainlink fence off the property line 2' into neighboring yard of one project.

This would of mean digging 10 holes, pulling posts with concrete blobs resetting posts, fencing, loosing any sign of digging, and replanting grass

over night
