Couple Of Questions/opinions About Kitch/bath Designers

I would like to become a certified kitchen and bath designer from NKBA National Kitchen and Bath Association, so I can help my husband and the customers. I have a couple of questions:

- Has anyone taken any of the NKBA classes, and if so how was it?

- Do you have a designer on staff, or one that you use? If not do you think it would be helpful to have one?

- If you were to have your own kitchen/bath remodeled would you like a designer to plan it out for you?

Most of our jobs lately have a designer involved, either a friend of theirs or hired. I think these jobs turn out looking the best, and are easier for us. So many customers don't know what they want, and they're too busy to do any of the leg work.

I think the ideal situation would be to hire the designer for the customer and be in control of the timeline, the designer, the project and most importantly the profit.

I don't like to be the tail wagged by the designer dog, I much rather be the wagger and call all the shots.

I'm a member of NKBA but have not taken any courses from them. I don't see how it would be harmful to you guys.

I have taken the NKBA classes. They're not bad. I learned alot that I never even thought about. I also learned how to use 20/20 software for designing. That's a cool program. It would be awsome for your business. Anything you can learn to help promote, and expand your business from within is always the best way to go.

I work for a few and their insights go well beyond what I would have imagined for a given space. Go for it!

That's one of the reasons that prompted this. If I can get certified as a designer, then we wouldn't have to deal with these other kooks! Plus I would really enjoy it, and we can make more money. Another plus would be, avoiding situations like our current job that was supposed to have started this past Monday and got delayed last minute, because the customer couldn't make up her mind.

Mel,
I see you're from Long Beach I was born in Huntington Beach and lived in the City of Orange for many years as a kid. I miss the 1960's and 70's California, but since I moved here to Florida it reminds me of it all the time.

Dave, Orlando reminds you of Huntington Beach? I was there a few years ago and am missing the correlation. IMHO, both suck. maybe there is something there.

Melissa, do it! What can go wrong? If it doesn't work out, add it to your resume. NUTZ.

Teetor,
What sucks for one person is HOME for another. The over all vibe is relative. After spending 20 odd years in Indiana in between the two places it's just the feeling...the scent of the air..the people. Southern Cal in the 60's and 70's was booming so much. There were still vast expanses of undeveloped land relatively close. I could wake up in the morning as a kid and see the mountains out my bedroom window. Can't see em' now I know. Orlando is such a boom town that's why it reminds me so much of SoCal, also all the people from different countries. Being a non-cracker I appreciate the these things.
