counter top repair?

I was hanging a bathroom vanity light and the globe slipped and fell a few inches and chipped the countertop. The globe survived, but the counter top was wounded. It is cultured marble, sort of a light cream color with dark red wisps of color randomly spaced. There are a total of 4 chips. Only one is readily apparent, but all of them can be felt. I fessed up to the gc and he has yet to tell me how he wants to handle it. Hoping to repair, not replace. 4' top with molded sink. The tile man said you can repair this with clear fingernail polish. He will do it if we don't fell comfortable with it. The biggest chip is less than 3/16" square and the others are way smaller than that. None of the chips are deep at all, almost surface scratches. This repair sounds good to me, but I will have to do whatever the gc wants of course. Any other options out there? Thanks

That stuff is made from marble dust mixed with a liquid polyester resin, if you put clear polish it will fill the void and harden. Hard to say what it looks like and how noticeable it is, but you can always try that method. There are some companies around that can buff these countertops with special gel compounds to get scratches and small chips out. The bigger cracks and chips is impossible to repair, because you cannot re-coat the whole top.

Good luck I hope it works out for you.

Or maybe a fiberglass refinisher, such as one who refurbishes tubs and such.

I hired one of them to refinish a shower and some porcelain sink chips on a rental. Turned out good.

Sorry for your troubles. This may sound trite, but it is always a good idea to carry some cardboard with you when working over counter tops.

Thanks for the replies. No word yet as to what the gc wants me to do. I will call the cultured marble people who put it in, but they are 150 miles away. Doubt they will come for the repair.

Just updating this thing. The GC talked the marble guys to come over and fix it. They haven't been here yet so I don't know what it will cost me, but at least I don't have to worry about it anymore. Thanks again.
