Well to say when your lucks out its really out, to cut a long story short was on last day of a remodel and required a 2 inch plastic 45 to finish i had a lot of tools in the house but had to drive 15 miles to get what i needed. Collecting peice and having a coffee on the way back was thinking about next job. As i turned up the lane to where i was working i saw smoke all over the place. Round the woods i came to find the house engulfed in flames. By the time the fire service arrived the house was all but gone. I hated to call the owner to tell em. On investigation they found that it was a lightening strike hitting the power line into the house and exploding the circuit box. Apart from a few melted tools and a few melted toys of the owners child nothing remains. I couldnt even bring myself to ask for my payment which was due on completion.

Could have been worse, you could have done the electrical and that have caused the fire, so it could have been worse....sorry for your loss(es).

Oh my gosh!! That is horrible! At least you are safe - you could have been way too close when it hit! I feel horrible for the family, can't imagine losing everything in a split second.

I agree. IT really sucks but is an act of nature. They are insured so they will rebuild. you should still get paid. You have a family to feed

I didnt have the right words to say to the family just helped poke around for anything that wasnt gone but not much left. I think the loss of her wedding photos hit her worst

I know that it sucks but go for the payment. Business is business. That's why they have ins. and you have an 'act of God' clause in your contract.

I really do feel sorry for the family and thank God that they were not in there at the time.

Give them some time to adjust and see if you can work it out with the ins. co. behind the scene.

The lightning strike was not YOUR fault and you still deserve to be paid.

Oh man that sucks so bad!!!!!! At least you weren't in the house when it happened!

I would have a hard time asking for the money too.... Maybe just drop an invoice by.... that's akward! hope it wasn't a lot of money!!!
