Corian Type Material Question??

Hey guys, I wasn't sure where to put this. Heres the scoop, I was over my buddies house this evening, I told him I would recaulk his shower cause he can't run a caulking gun Anyway the tub surrond is pretty old, it is a material that is identical to corian. I was pulling the already falling off center trim strip off and I freaking cracked it. I was able to put it back and you really can't even see the crack. And it is my buddy so he really dosen't care, but I would like to fix it anyway.

Any of you guys have any tips on making the crack disappear? Maybe filling sanding, and polishing or something?

Thanks, Dave

If it's cultured marble, I would probaby just use that two-part epoxy that comes in a syringe. If it is solid surface (corian), you can buy a repair kit that matches the color of the material. Once repaired, corian can be sanded and re-polished so the repair is completely invisible.

Thanks guys, Crap I forgot to get a pic I was just over there. I'm thinking it is cultured marble due to its age. And it looks like those one peice cultured marble tops the big boxes sell. Its a whitetish gray color. I guess this is what I get for being to lazy to walk to the truck and get another pry bar.

Is cultured marble sandable and polishable?

It actually is. If you have any experience with gel coats like on sail boat hulls you'll have little problem with it.

The color or pattern on top only goes so deep, like polishing gel coat you can burn through it.

Do an internet search for polishing culture marble, you should find what you need to know.

Ive read about that, I guess you use a diamond sand paper, like 1000 grit or something like that.

Thanks, guys, I am gonna give that a try. Good thing this wasn't a job for a real paying customer, I would be buying a new tub surrond! I still feel like a big idiot though

Thanks, Dave
