Copper Top On Kitchen Island?

I have a customer who has asked me about putting a copper top on an island 3' x 6', good or bad idea??? They want this because it works with the color scheme and design of the new kitchen.

Copper is a very sanitary material, so its use in the kitchen is not an issue. As long as the customer is aware that they can literally cut through it with a knife on accident and dent it easily, it will work. If its a thick sheet (1/4") it would be much less prone to this. Another possibility is to bond it to a solid countertop surface.

Will it work in their color scheme AFTER the copper has patina?

Just a heads up.

I would think you would be okay if you glued/attached the copper to the substrate. I did put an epoxy finish over a copper top at a bar but they had the edges built up with trim and I just filled in between. The epoxy is tough stuff. You still wouldn't want to cut on it with a knife though. THat's why they make cutting boards.
