Re: Concrete Counter Tops

I had a good long hard look at concrete counter-tops, even bought the book, and read it too. The conclusion I came to was that it might be fun to do for your own kitchen, but was too time intensive and therefore more expensive than solid granite.

Re: Concrete Counter Tops

They have countertops out now that look like granite but there not instead there made out of recycled glass and they are sharp looking. I just thought i would throw that out there. Concrete countertops are big in like arizona.

Re: Concrete Counter Tops

They sell for 80-100/sq ft installed. But it isn't nearly as easy as people think. You really need to understand the chemistry of concrete to be able to produce 1 1/2" slabs that can take the abuse of a countertop.

Precast is the way to do it. I recommend using melamine sheet for your molds, and silicone caulk all seams. there are so many recipes on mix designs I don't know where to start.

Get Fu-tung Cheng's book.

I don't like the look.

Do they get sealed?
Can imagine the absorption of all the chicken and fish juices

Re: Concrete Counter Tops

We actually resurface existing countertops with concrete....don't have the weight issues or cost and can get any look you want.
