Company Name

I am about to dump some cash into advertising and am thinking of changing my company name first. Right now I dont advertise, so only my customers have ever heard of me, and I will have the same phone number so I figure what the hell. I will be out some business cards, a few shirts and about 6 yard signs, not much at all really. I am looking at getting a new van and having it lettered, thats what got me thinking maybe Modern Style isnt a great name. Any suggestions ? $
I hate thinking that I am losing work to guys who have catchier names and lettered vans, but do crap work. So I am going to sell all of my Obama coins and do some advertising.

PARAGON PAINTING

I don't know, ModernStyle has a certain 1950's classic sound to it I think.

Too many Paragons in the area.
I wouldnt know about the 50's thing, I wasnt born untill '74. Hell I made up that name when I was doing apartments, I was using a different name untill I found out there was already a company named that, I could have got into a little trouble for that.

Modern,
Ditto on the mid-century sound of your current name, it links with Eames, Dunbar(famous classic from Berne,In), Herman Miller... very classy to older crowd. It depends on your target market. I like the name, not sure what logo you would use?

What market do you want to reach?

Too many Paragons everywhere.

'74, you still must have a feel for the nostalgia of the fifties thing.

You might be onto something [no, not "on" something] here Bodger...

How does this sound Modern....
Keep the name!
Change the logos and such to a more retro "look" when there were less hacks and more craftsmen.
I'm thinking a 50's art-deco sort of theme or something.

I dont think the name matters much for the commercial work that I do, I just feel that if I advertise with a catchy logo and name that I will get more residential repaint work. I see all the vans around town with (Bill's Painting) on them and I am not impressed, but every now and then I see a good one and start to think maybe mine could use a little work.

Exactly! Back in the days of quality when painters drove around in rigs like this:

Stick with Modern Style personally, just get a kick a55 logo (whether retro or new age) Great name, your truck will be lettered, & let your work speak for you. By the way get a website up

Or you can always go with Painting by Modern Style or PMS for short

Exactly what I was starting to write. Modern Style appeals to the older crowd in the retro way, but will appeal to the 25 yer old because Modern Style represents the latest trends. It's a fantastic name, if your avatar is your logo, just sand off a little of the harshness and call it a day. You have a lot going for you there.
