Commercial Stairs
hello
i am having a difficult time finding a specification on railing coming down stairs for a machanic shop. what are requirements for posts and spindles? could someone help? dan |

There's a whole, convoluted section of the IBC that you need to read and understand- you're not playing in residential-land anymore, and the codes get a lot more complex. Time to buy a code book.

In Georgia, Top of the rail has to be 42" from step leading edge, and spindles have to be 4" on center. Rail has to withstand 400lbs pressure. Haven't figured out how to measure that one yet. Get a code book for wherever you are.
