CL Why Post A Pic With OSHA Violation In Ad

I saw this ad today ....roof jobs, save 30%, blah, blah, blah. Then the guy shows pictures of some work in process, with a guy using ladder jacks in the most unsafe manner that I have ever seen.

CL why post a pic with OSHA violation in ad-nice-staging.jpg

Do you guys look closely at all your pics for violations, messy areas, trip hazards, Home Depot bags, etc?

Ha! ha! ha! The safety guys up here would have a field day with those guys. Ladder jacks are not even legal here. Over 10' off the ground you need full safety harness. No hard hats, etc etc. They would be gone off the site wondering where they were going to get the money for the fines.

OSHA, smOSHA.

Would you rather see 'em using a 16' 2x10 on ladder jacks? Sorry, but I actually think that's a pretty slick use of available resources.

Better than screwing pump jack brackets into the Fypon dentil molding.

Classic flashback moment. My first back injury was on one of those made from a 24' header from an old chicken coop. Kicked myself in the back of the head while trying not to hit orbit. It's a long story, but I get sciatica to this day from it.

Re: CL Why Post A Pic With OSHA Violation In Ad

I see that all the time with pictures in major publications. SW ads, and others. Men on water tanks with no harness on. I was at a trade show in Houston in Feb. and a major tank builder/painter had their Brochures out on the table and I was looking over the brouchure for their tank painting services and notices the two men in the picture which was about 60' in the air on some swing staging had no harness's on. I was kind to point the picture out to the man behind the table. He first said that they were wearing body belts and they were attached to the stage, and I told him that body belts were outlawed many years ago and on swing staging you had to be tied off indepentdently from the stage. He then proceeded to put the brochures under the table. I got a e-mail from him after the show thanking me for noticing. I always catch myself looking at pictures for stuff like that. I should get paid for it .

Here is the picture that is still on their website:

I usually the safety nut, but I have to admit to using another person as my counterweight. The other guy can be at the left side of the dormer and still have no problem. I had a gang of siders use 2x8 stuck in the end of the pick to get an extra 4 ft of length. Would I do it NFW, but sometimes you need to be creative to get it done.

I'm pretty sure there is. Or there's no way the stage would even stay there. I use aluminum ladder brackets (three pairs of them) more than I use my Aluma poles.

I highly doubt they are using only two ladders. This is our normal set up Osha is gong to find a violation with just about everyone.

Re: CL Why Post A Pic With OSHA Violation In Ad

I won't post the pic here, but I did one like that. Only, we had the ladders less than 8' apart. Got kinda hairy when me 'counterbalance' walked over to my side to ask a question for some silly reason.

For some reason the term "my counterbalance" just makes me nervous - in general!
