Cement 4x4s Okay quit looking at me like I belong in either a straight jacket or a nursing home... BUT.... Back in the early to mid 1980s a friend of mine showed me a catalogue that had some reinforced cement/???? fence posts. These were pre'cast' units which already had holes drilled in them at certain levels for bolts to go through. They may actually have been a little bit larger than nominal 4x4's. The idea was a fence post that would last "forever" and be good in repeatedly wet areas or just wherever you wanted to use em (for the price). They were about 3 times the cost of a 4x4 back then if I remember right. Never had need for them before but could use 2 of them for a special project now and I have asked for them a couple of times and gotten the Does anyone remember these and if so where the H do you find them if they still even exist?

Re: Cement 4x4s
Not only do I remember them but they came with options. The most popular here being 8 - 10" louvered type rails, also concrete.
I'll see if I can get some pics the next time that I'm in an old neighborhood. As to where to find them today, I have no clue. A mold would be easy enough to make.

Re: Cement 4x4s
Thanks for the sanity check Teetor!
As for making a form/mold for this.... I am actually considering that and thought about it on the way to work today. That would take some time to do, but if this stuff is no longer available I'll certainly consider going in that direction. Love to see the pics.... my memory of these is hazy. PS: Never saw the rails here.

Re: Cement 4x4s
I Googled 'old concrete fencing' and came up with pages of stuff.

Re: Cement 4x4s
I knw you can still get the ones for three rail fences, my supplier just did a big job with them a few months ago. I betcha those were some tough days.
I would say try a fence wholesaler or big retail one, but if they could get them it would probably only be in quanity.
