Carpenter?

I'm a non-contractor who has a door off its hinges (Yes, I know, some of you really clever folks could pick that up and run with it, but this is serious). I could tackle this problem with my underpowered drill and overpowered imagination, which really has worked on many projects. This time, however, I think I need someone who has a clue. A carpenter? If yes, how do I find a good reputable one? Local carpenter's union? It's not easy to figure out which professional to use for which job. I've been thinking of hring a "handyman" but I'm not even sure what that title encompasses in terms of training, skill, licensing, etc.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Carpenter?

"door off hinges"...is that just a term or do you really just have a door off it's hinges?

If it's the latter and you want a guy to come in and fix your door then state which city you're in. Chances are someone in here works out of that city and you can hook up.
